WINEMAKER’S NOTES 2020 was a hot vintage, which led to ripe fruit and, for Pinot Gris, notably darker skins. The Brix from Dim Vineyard came in at 23.4, balanced by the Brix from Cherry Vineyard at 21.6. We initiated fermentation with 5 days of carbonic maceration, enhancing the wine's deep color from the darker skins. The wine was fermented and aged in older 1000L French Garbellotto casks, with fermentation completing over 4 months. Afterward, it continued to age in these large casks for an additional 22 months. Once aging was complete, the wine was filtered and bottled.
SOMMELIER’S NOTES This Pinot Gris stands out with its strikingly deep, fluorescent orange hue—unlike any traditional expression of the variety. The nose offers a captivating mix of persimmon and orange marmalade, with a subtle hint of gunpowder reduction. On the palate, it’s dry, concentrated, and textured, evoking a sense of depth more akin to a red wine. This is a serious, unconventional Pinot Gris that contrasts sharply with the light, crisp styles of Northern Italian Pinot Grigio, appealing to those who typically enjoy Pinot Noir. Its weight and complexity bring to mind a Pinot Noir Rosé. For a delightful pairing, try this wine with roasted duck or pork belly. The richness of these dishes complements the wine’s bold texture and fruit-forward profile. (Sept.2024 - JL)
